My name is Dr. Mark Van Volkenburg and I proudly can say I’m born and raised in Buffalo, NY.  I always had a passion for health and wellness. Ever since I was younger, I always knew that I wanted to be in health care but to what capacity I didn’t know. So it wasn’t until I visited the local chiropractor for an injury from playing hockey. While talking to the chiropractor, he explained to me how the body has an innate ability to heal itself. It made complete sense to me!

While playing hockey and being on the ice 5-6 times a week injuries are going to happen. Low back, mid-back, shoulder, musculoskeletal injuries were part of playing a fast paced physical sport. Over the counter medications were used only to find that it was masking the pain. So visiting the chiropractor and being adjusted, I was healing quicker. The problem was being addressed! With continued chiropractic care, injuries were decreasing. That’s when I knew what I wanted to be a chiropractor.

I attended Buffalo State College and majored in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. While I was doing my undergraduate work, I was lucky enough to work with a microbiologist on his research. We researched antibiotic resistant bacteria, environmental microbiology, and survival of bacteria in aquatic environments. After graduating from Buffalo State College, I attended New York Chiropractic College. While taking the rigorous course work, I was involved in the Motion Palpation Club. I have advanced training in deep tissue laser therapy, scientific basis of medical lasers, general laser therapy, activator methods technique, and myofascial trigger point therapy. Upon graduating from New York Chiropractic, I was selected for the Libero A. Violini Health Center Award for the intern that performed at a high level of excellence in the area of patient evaluations, procedures and in assisting fellow interns in development of similar skills.

When I’m not at work, I still enjoy playing hockey. So once a week, you’ll find me on the ice. I also enjoy mountain biking, snorkeling, being outdoors, playing guitar, and traveling. But most of all, I love being with my family! Family is very important to me and I couldn’t do what I do without my family.
